No Dice...

The Hub called Stepspawn last night, she was very monotone and unresponsive. He asked if she was excited about moving to Arkansas, she said yes. He asked if she would rather move to Arkansas or come back here to live, she said Arkansas. She asked him at least 4 times why he was calling, was he calling for some reason? He told her he missed her and hadn't talked to her in a while. He asked if she would like to come visit before she goes, she said no. All very robotic.

He asked her if she still wanted to be a veterinarian, (apparently she did at one point) and she acted as though she didn't know what he was talking about. She does that alot now, you bring up something she said or did, and she acts like she never said it or did it. I feel bad for the Hub, he feels like his kid hates him, and I had to try and reassure him that his crazy dad did this to her, not him. Either way, I think that he's just hoping (as am I) that she'll smarten up here soon and find her own way out of this, I doubt it though.

Bad news all around. I'm thinking of calling Child Services in the area where they live now, but they won't be able to tell how much she has changed, because they didn't know her before.

We talked about getting a lawyer and filing for custody, but we cannot even think about affording it right now. I don't think we qualify for any sort of legal aid either.

If you bring up any kind of concern to Child Protective Services, the MUST investigate. Do what you have to do...embellish, be dramatic, whatever it takes.
Make the call.

Also, it will prompt them to contact her mom and that would probably be a good thing.

I don't think it's a good idea to embellish or lie just to get custody. She isn't being physically abused is she? If she isn't , as much as it sucks, there's not a lot you can do except for argue the fact that she shouldn't be able to leave the state. That is more of an argument that a judge would be willing to uphold. Even a crappy lawyer can argue that. I'd play that card.....I wouldn't lie because that's only going to make you all look bad and under penalty of perjury in court, they could throw your ass in jail....especially if your blog were called into question...Hope all is well...I haven't seen you on my IM in a while!

I don't really know for sure if she's being physically abused, but my husband and his brothers were when they were growing up by these same people, so it's not completely farfetched. I do know mental abuse counts for something, and I really feel that there is no way she would have changed this drastically unless there is some sort of abuse going on. If you knew this kid before and talked to her now, you would be shocked at the difference. They call it positive change, I think basically turning a healthy (albeit hard-headed stubborn) teenager into a "zombie" is not positive. I don't use the word lightly, she seems almost drugged, it's weird. I got online and checked in my state some FAQs about custody, and usually they take into consideration what the child wants, and where she's been living, because they don't like to rip kids out of their "homes". Makes me think all the more that they've been planning this for quite some time. The whole thing is just ugly.

ya, that's too bad. Well, if you think there is abuse of some kind going on...by all means make that call. I'll pray for your situation. It's too bad that the BTIL are a bit crazy....as well as the mom.
